Kenyatta University Green Week 2019

Kenyatta University Green Week 2019

The Role of Youth in Environmental Sustainability

Kenyatta University Environmental Club is a club within Kenyatta University registered with the Director of Students Affairs. The club’s main mandate is to initiate environmentally friendly activities within and outside the campus and at the same time nurturing environmentally sensitive individuals through the creation of awareness and environmental advocacy.

The club was started in 1992, by then known as Environmental Science Club. A new perspective was introduced into the club to give it a more holistic outlook in composition and view of the environment. KUNEC thus came to being and derives the membership within and outside the university.

MISSION STATEMENT; To develop and promote internationally accepted norms, values, and principles in caring for the environment by inspiring, informing, and enabling individuals and firms to improve their quality of life with due consciousness and responsiveness to environmental challenges.

VISION OF THE CLUB; The club envisages the development and enhancement of dynamic vibrant environmentalism through the harness-ing and application of student resources in order to produce an environment that is mutually supportive of development and respects the integrity of ecological processes and genetic diversity.

#GreenWeek2019

Green Week is an annual youth-led conference held by Kenyatta University Environmental Club. With the advent of each Green Week, the club invites environmentalists to come together to discuss issues and find solutions to matters relating to the environment. This was the 9th Green Week since its conception in 2011. This year, we actively sought to break down the role of the African youth in the creation of environmental sustainability.

We remain grateful to all the participants, partners, and sponsors of the event. We wouldn’t have known success were it not for you. The organizing committee worked tirelessly to ensure we had the best results. We were also strongly supported by a base of relentless volunteers and the 28th KUNEC Executives to whom we are thankful. Sincere gratitude to Nyamwange Moseti – Sam who hosted the week to perfection, Otieno Nelly Sharon the chairperson & her deputy, Jeff Bruce Bahati, and our special advisors Tracy Makheti & Japheth Orieny.
